For a class blog curation assignment, I have added my resume, made some minor aesthetic adjustments, and of course, added this blog post! I did not have a resume on my blog the first time I did this assignment, because creating the blog was in itself a great task, but I think it makes for a nice addition. This assignment has also given me the opportunity to look at my blog with fresh eyes and make some little changes so that it looks cleaner.
I would like to work to establish more of a professional online presence, perhaps by creating a LinkedIn profile or posting more of my creative work to my portfolio. My Wix page is a good starting point, but I feel that I could do more to showcase my talents and abilities online for future employers.
In the three months since I first started this blog, I have learned a lot about online presence and the importance of self-surveillance. There is always a possibility that the messages we send will reach people other than their intended audiences, so it is important that we monitor our online activities lest we be exposed. Therefore, I would like to create my own online presence, shaped by what I put out and not by the little pieces and trails left by my usage. For example, previously one thing that came up when searching my name was my Pinterest account. While generally harmless, it gave out a lot more about me than I would want just anyone to know and be able to find. Instead, I will make public social media accounts to showcase my work and professional lifestyle, like the aforementioned LinkedIn profile or more updates on this blog. I am sure the university offers seminars on professional development and will look to the career center for suggestions on how to establish more of an online presence.
My main question at this phase in developing my blog is what to put under the “Course Projects” tab. I would also be interested to know what kind of blog posts would be appropriate to add to a professional blog.
